Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL)

How can you help ensure that the N. Santiam River meets the required mercury, bacteria and temperature regulations outlined in the TMDL?  It's the little actions that matter to keep contaminants from leaching into the groundwater. Most things require little to no effort on your part, simply continue to do the things that help keep our community clean:

• Pick up dog feces and throw them in the trash
• Don't dispose of trash or debris in the street or storm sewers
• Don't put chemicals, medications, or similar items down the drain
• Don't let chemicals, motor oil, etc. drain onto the ground
• Dispose of all contaminates appropriately
• Don't throw trash, debris, chemicals or other contaminates into the river
• If you own property along the river, plant the riparian area with native vegetation
• Have a septic system? Have it tested regularly to ensure there is not a failure in the system and make sure it is pumped on a regular schedule
