CANYON FIREWORKS BBQ COMPETITION TO START OLD FASHIONED JULY 4TH CELEBRATION OFF WITH A BANG

Mill City Adds Pacific NW BBQ Association Sanctioned Event to Holiday Calendar

Mill City, Oregon, February 17, 2012 – Partnering with the Pacific NW BBQ Association (PNWBA), The City of Mill City has added a 1-day, sanctioned BBQ competition to its longstanding July 4th Celebration. The event will take place in the city’s Kimmel Park on Sunday, July 1, 2012; participants, volunteers and sponsors are needed to make the event a success.

Barbecue is a true American original with its roots in the South. Real old-school barbecue happens when a large cut of meat or ribs is placed in a closed pit and cooks indirectly (away from the fire) with the low heat and smoke of a charcoal and or wood fire. The ideal temperature in one of these pits usually runs between 225-250 degrees. The Canyon Fireworks BBQ Competition will include ribs, chicken, sausage and tri-tip steak. A People’s Choice category is also being considered. Competitors, whether individuals or teams, do not have to be PNWBA members to participate but must follow PNWBA rules and procedures; PNWBA’s established double-blind judging system will be used to determine who takes home the $2500 to $5000 in overall cash and prizes, as well as bragging rights for performance in each category.

Businesses and individuals interested in sponsorship opportunities should contact Sheila Hoover, Canyon Fireworks BBQ Competition Event Coordinator, at (503) 586-8071 or by email to sheila@itwtrailrides.com. A variety of sponsorship levels will be available. Volunteers and potential competitors should contact the City of Mill City staff at City Hall by calling 503-897-2302 or emailing to info@ci.mill-city.or.us and including “BBQ Competition” in the subject line.
