Exploring the scenic North Santiam Canyon can be quite an experience. Working your way east along Santiam Highway 22 you can find activities that will occupy even the pickiest of travelers for days. Sublimity offers Best Western, centrally located within an hour or two of the North Santiam Canyon's best sites.
Start out visiting Silver Falls where you can spend your day hiking, picnicking and playing while surrounded by some of the most beautiful falls in the country.
On day two head to the Stayton/Scio area for a day of antiquing and viewing awesome farm country along with a tour of the areas covered bridges.
For day three plan to relax as you fish lazily on the North Santiam River from any of a number of locations including the Santiam State Park, Mill City Hammond Park or anywhere in between. Pick up your fishing supplies at the Santiam Sports Center located on Highway 22. If you are more interested in history than fish head up to Mill City to visit the Canyon Life Museum. Staffed by volunteers, the museum is only open during the months of June, July and August, Thursday - Saturday, 1:30 PM-4:30 PM, but the amount of history encased in the small museum building is well worth the effort to fit in a visit.
On day four it's off for an exciting rafting trip down the North Santiam. Our experienced guides will take you on an adventure you won't soon forget. Some of the rapids in the North Santiam are not for the faint of heart so be prepared for a heart stopping day.
For your fifth day in this beautiful country head up to Elkhorn Golf Course for a relaxing round of golf, soak in the natural hot springs at Breitenbush or plan a day of boating and swimming at Detroit Lake. Stop at Circle K as you travel Highway 22 for a few snack items or head down in to the heart of Mill City and visit the Mill City Select Market for some heartier picnic fare.
For those more into winter activities, plan your vacation for this winter and head up to Hoodoo Ski Resort, just an hour away from Mill City, where you can ski, snowboard or tube to your hearts content. On your way back through Mill City stop in to warm up, fill up or just relax at any of our wonderful restaurants. You can choose from pizza at Giovanni's, burgers at Poppa Al's or a steaming coffee, latte or chai tea at Rosie's Mtn. Coffee House. Early birds should grab a scone at Rosie's or try out Mt. Edge Cafe for a breakfast that will keep you running all day.
Picnicking is available at any of Mill City's well maintained parks including Hammond Park, Memorial Wayside Park and our largest, Kimmel Park, which has two covered shelters, a kiddie play area and two play structures. Both Hammond and Kimmel Park sit along the North Santiam River. Santiam State Park is available for overnight camping while you explore our picturesque city.
